Tourism

Lake Constance is one of the few tourist regions in the world that encompasses parts of four national states. Boasting a history of over 100 years, tourism is one of the most important sectors in the region.

In 2010, the Lake Constance region recorded a total of about 17.8 million overnight stays (in the hotel business), of which:

  • 37 percent were registered in the German districts,
  • 35 percent in the Swiss cantons,
  • 27 percent in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg,
  • and about one percent in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

On average, guests stayed in 2010 in the region for 2.5 days. However, these numbers vary among the different parts of the Lake Constance region:

With an average stay of 3,6 days, visitors to the Austrian part of the region stayed the longest followed by the German section of the region, where tourists – on average – stayed 2.9 days, and then the Principality of Liechtenstein (2.2 days). Tourists to the Swiss cantons of the Lake Constance region stayed shortest (1.8 days).
